Child Safety Statement

Last updated: June 2026

Our minimum age is 16

Auroracast is a space-weather and aurora-watching service with a community area where members can post messages, share sighting photos, and message one another. Our community is for people aged 16 and over. Auroracast is not designed for, marketed to, or intended for children, and we do not knowingly allow under-16s to create accounts.

How we check age at sign-up

Everyone is asked for their date of birth when they create an account — whether they sign up with an email address or with Google. Accounts where the date of birth is under 16 are refused. We record that the age declaration was made so we have a clear account of the check.

This is a proportionate, self-declared age check appropriate to a low-risk community that does not host adult or otherwise age-restricted material. We do not collect identity documents, because doing so would be excessive for a service of this kind.

Keeping the community safe

Alongside the age requirement, we keep the community appropriate by:

  • Publishing clear community conduct rules that prohibit abusive, harmful, or illegal content;
  • Allowing members to report content or behaviour that breaks the rules;
  • Reviewing reports and removing content, and suspending or banning accounts, where the rules are breached;
  • Keeping a record of moderation actions taken by our team.

If you are a parent or carer

If you believe a child under 16 has created an account, or you have any concern about a young person using the site, please contact us at admin@auroracast.co.uk and we will look into it and remove the account if appropriate.

Reporting a problem

To report content, a message, or an account that concerns you, email admin@auroracast.co.uk with the details. We aim to review reports promptly.

Our commitment

We keep these measures under review and will strengthen them if our service changes or if guidance from Ofcom or the Information Commissioner's Office requires it.
